MACON, Ga. — Have a good 4th of July week! Don’t despair if you can’t make it to the beach as Macon has a host of events, from art exhibits to fireworks, to keep you busy.

Dungeon & Dragons Game Night on Reboot

Reboot Retrocade & Bar continues to be one of the coolest places in town for like-minded nerds (and we say it ourselves as nerds). On Thursday they will be hosting a Dungeon and Dragons game night. It’s a one-shot game that will last four hours (four hours flies by when you’re deep in D&D territory). Priority seating will be given to beginners. Retrocade will provide the materials but encourages potential players to bring their character sheets, dice, and miniatures with them.

Tributaries and topographies

Local artist Mariana dos Santos Furlin promised herself on New Year’s Eve 2021 to make more art and hold her first public art exhibition. This solo exhibition, which runs from July 1 to August 21 at Startup Studios, is a direct result of that promise. The approximately 18 watercolours, tissue papers and pens on display are what Fulin calls his “evolution of style”.

Ethan Payne at the Society Garden

American Idol contestant and protege of country music superstar Luke Bryant, Ethan Payne performs on the Society Garden Outdoor Stage on Saturday. In the past, Macon native Payne has opened for Ricky Skaggs, Suzy Bogguss and Mark Willis. It looks like Nashville has their eye on him, so grab him while you can.

Ol’ Time fourth at Jarrell Plantation

Celebrate the 4th of July weekend at Jarrell Plantation with live bluegrass music, old-world carnival games, relays and races and see the farm come to life with demonstrations of farming skills like beekeeping, spinning, weaving, wood-stove cooking and more. Stay for a slice of watermelon and a midday reading of the Declaration of Independence. Then at 2 p.m., join Tom Bonnell for “Inside the hive” a look at a year of activity in a hive in Georgia.

Vibezfest hosted by Ari the Don

Vibez, Cherry Street’s popular brunch, bar and steakhouse, celebrates its first anniversary with an epic blast. There will be a Summer Vibes fashion show, six DJs and two live performers featured at the event. VIP tents are sold out, but general admission is still available.

Free Art Day at StART Up Studios

If you’re looking for a place to explore your creativity without judgement, then Free Art Day at StART UP Studios is for you. In this new weekly series, StART Up provides attendees with a free canvas and paints and gives customers the time and space to create whatever they want. The studio also has a craft beer bar in case you need some lubrication to get those creative juices flowing.

4th of July fireworks at Lake Tobesofkee

Is it even 4th of July if you don’t see the fireworks at Lake Tobo? We would say that is not the case. If you plan to attend, we have good faith that you should arrive much earlier than the 9 p.m. fireworks start time, as the doors close at 8 p.m. and the event is expected to be packed. Sandy Beach will have the best view of the fireworks, so be sure to lay down your blanket there.

Quiz night and karaoke at the Colibri

On Wednesday evenings, The Hummingbird Stage & Taproom, with your host Chris Bryson, hosts a fun little day out. You and a few friends (hopefully your smartest ones) can compete in 3 rounds of brain teaser questions. The winners of each round receive a pitcher to share between the team. The big winner receives a bar tab for the night. Questions start at 7 p.m. Once the champion is crowned, it’s everyone’s turn to win, because the karaoke starts around 9 p.m. Hosted by Man Intheboxx, and all the glorious tunes that come with it.
