Meghalaya: Nongstoin Legislator – M Byrsat expresses concern over increase in drug addicts

Nongstoin Legislator – M Byrsat has expressed concern over the rise in the number of drug addicts along the West Khasi Hills district, a challenge that has harmed society.

Addressing an agenda in line with the upcoming “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26; an event was held Friday at Market Complex New Nongstoin in the West Khasi Hills district.

The show was themed “Addressing Drug-Related Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises”. It was organized by the District Social Welfare Office in conjunction with the District Child Welfare Unit, West Khasi Hills District Police and the Khasi Student Union (KSU).

“The fight against drug abuse urgently requires the cooperation of parents, school administrators, Durbar, the police and non-governmental organizations (NGOs),” the MP said.

Byrsat further urged young people to reject drugs and refrain from all forms of anti-social evils.

It should be noted that the “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” is celebrated on June 26 every year, to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of transforming a world without abuse of drugs.
